Great weather and a full crowd made Fall Festival a success! It is the Craig County party of the year and many had a fun day ending with one of the biggest crowds for the Demolition Derby. The Library was joined by a Tourism Booth greeting people and selling the Official Craig County Tree, the Eastern Redbud and selling stickers with the new “county pride” logo. If you missed out, trees are still on sale at the library and stickers at the Emporium. Funds support Craig County Tourism.
The Craig County Public Library would greatly like to thank all who showed their support with fundraising and volunteering efforts. Craig County High School Rocket football players read to young festival attendees. Each child also received new children’s books donated by the Library of Virginia. Craig County High School students assisted in setting up and attending the book sale. Volunteers from the library worked as salespeople, information book attendants, ticket sellers, and survey takers. Our raffle ticket winners were Rose Cayton, Tom Spence, and Rita Stebar. The book sale at the library was a great success and many patrons left with bags and boxes of lovingly donated books. These earned dollars help keep your library running.
The Library Board sponsored an interest survey of festival participants in order to assess knowledge of the progress of the library’s expansion and community desires for future planning. Results of this survey are to follow in an upcoming article. Thanks to the many people who filled out our survey on the Resource Center/Expanded Library. We heard from 186 people! We asked for local input to help us shape this idea together and we got great feedback. There are survey forms available at the library if you would like to have a voice. It is short survey with only three questions.
In addition to all the volunteers that helped us at Fall Fest, a special thanks goes out to our young volunteers who helped read to children, set-up and break down for the day, conducted raffles sales, and encouraged people to fill out surveys. Thanks to Gavin Shires, a high school student who volunteers at the library two days a week, and returning Craig County graduates, Maggie Huffman and Sadie McAllister. After all, the vision for the Resource Center is about our youth and giving them a place for the future of Craig County.
